The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation's Komen Richmond Affiliate began in 1998 by Jennifer Norvell Saunders in memory of her mother, who lost her battle against breast cancer after a second reoccurrence of her disease.

The Komen Richmond Affiliate was created in 1999 to support the dream of a world without breast cancer and operates in 30 plus counties within and around the Richmond area.
