Clinical trials using iPS cells by next year

The following are some quotes from an article about advances in adult stem cell research. What will always amaze me is this: embryonic stem cells are unethical, they generate tumors which means they are practically unusable, and one of the major research organizations supporting them eventually decided to discontinue their studies. That said, why should anyone be advocating for the broken promise of embryonic stem cells when adult stem cell research continues to advance? And why are religious opponents of embryonic stem cell research still considered "anti-science" when the "science" in this case does not work?
