A Deceptive Statistic Analyzed

By now most Pro-Palestinian Groups have realized that the majority of America will not side with Palestine in the Middle East Conflict due to their widely held belief that the tactics of Palestine militias are barbaric.

To counter this many groups have tried to make the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) look more barbaric. A key means to doing this is a statistic they cite: about 3 times as many Palestinians have been kill as Israelis.

Corpses don’t lie: far more Palestinian fatalities have occurred than Israelis. But there is a twist, as exposed by the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), an internationally respected Israeli think tank that used only Arab media sources when compiling their data of fatalities of the 2000 Palestinian Intifada.

The numbers come from the timeline of September 27th, AD 2000 to January 1st, AD 2005. And here are some of the many findings:

1,099 Palestinian noncombatant fatalities were committed by Israel, making 34.6% of Palestine’s losses civilian. 764 of Israeli noncombatant fatalities were committed by Palestine, making 75.6% of Israel’s losses civilian.

406 Palestinians were killed by other Palestinians. Given that virtually all of these were noncombatants, this means that 26.9% of Palestine’s civilian losses were self-inflicted. Only 2.1% of Israel’s fatalities were self-inflicted.

140 Palestinian women have been killed, comprising 4.4% of Palestine’s total fatality rate. Of that number, 73.5% were noncombatants. 316 Israeli women have been killed, comprising 31.3% of Israel’s totally fatality rate. Of that number, 96.8% were noncombatants.

2.8% of Palestine’s fatalities have been 45 years or over; 25.2% of Israel’s fatalities have been 45 years or over. Israel’s fatalities in this demographic are three times that of Palestine’s.

Israel’s noncombatant female fatalities are three times that of Palestine’s.

Although nearly twice as many Palestinian children aged 10-12 have been killed as Israelis in the same demographic, Israel’s 10-12 demographic fatality is 4.6% of its fatalities whereas 2.8% of this demographic makes up Palestine’s overall losses.

Reminder: when compiling this data, the ICT used only Arab media sources on the conflict, which means bias would be reserved in favor of Palestine.
