Humans and Neanderthals Might Have Interbred

The following is a find from Live Science that in my humble opinion undermines a core tenant of the General Theory of Evolution. This is because it begs a question: if Neanderthals and humans are different species, then how come they can reproduce together? Maybe Neanderthals are not a different species of animal but rather a different ethnic or racial group. Maybe this greatly undermines the whole model of evolutionary descent. Just a thought, that's all.

The study covered by the story analyzed bone fragments, with the lead researcher concluding that Humans and Neanderthals "saw each other as socially appropriate mates.”

Amusingly enough, when the fragments in question were first discovered, notes the article, "they received little attention inside Romania and were unknown outside the country." Why? "Because the bones essentially looked like those of an early modern human..."

Although the lead research did note one drawback to this interesting find, "We don’t have a site where we have a human and a Neanderthal buried next to each other...I’m still waiting for that.”
