State of the Union for Cross Nation, AD 2010
January 11th of this year shall mark the third year since the first content was uploaded to this website, www.cross-nation.com. Since that day, there have been mistakes and usually in that order. Below is a sampling of what has been happening since AD 2008, which was the last time a State of the Union for Cross Nation was given. Unlike the United States Government, there is no obligation for an annual address on this matter. Another luxury is that I do not have to worry about people shouting “You lie!” while I write this up.
The Departments
The Department of Nonfiction maintains its position as the largest of the literary departments. It is updated twice a month, which is more than any other department. Throughout this time its focus has shifted. Initially it had short essays, usually articles written by the webmaster. Then the focus shifted on the Nonfiction Department being a source of mainstream news articles, articles which gave credence to the myriad of positions found in the Fundamentalist Christian Movement. This apologetic feel is being altered once more, as increasingly sermons and historical documents are posted instead. This is for two equally important reasons: one, the sermons are for spiritual devotion and edification. And two, there are fewer copyright concerns. Because of these reasons, this shift will take place and be seldom deviated from.
An essay was added to the Department of Antithesis. Before then, the Antithesis Department had only laconic claim entries, as opposed to essay entries. Claims will most likely still be added, but from time to time essays will also be added. New works were added to the Department of Fiction, including my first published short story (Yay for me!). The trend shall be created that only short stories that have been published elsewhere will be published, with the previously acquired permission of the publisher. This was the case for “From the Valley of Darkness”, which was originally published by the George Mason University publication Volition.
Apologetics gained a considerable amount of essays, including three on the secularist organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State. As of Epiphany Day AD 2010, no official response has been made by said organization to the works in question. Then again, given the scale of the operations of said organization criticisms leveled by a lesser known web site are probably the least of their concerns. Essays were added to the Department of Credocide, thus far no responses made to any of them. As with the recently added Apologetics Department essays, most likely this is because apologists for the viewpoints deconstructed have not stumbled upon my website rather than a willful silence in the face of crushing evidence. Hopefully the latter will eventually become the norm.
Answering James Randi Forum
This webpage will always hold a place in my heart, for it was the immediate justification for creating a website in the first place. Had the James Randi Educational Forum never posted the thread about my anti-evolution GMU Broadside article, I probably would have never pursued getting a website. However, in many ways it is an item of the past. The back-and-forth between the JREF and myself is aging, with the last volleys fired in AD 2007. Therefore, this sub-department will be modified, perchance to “Answering the Critics”, and include the original “Answering James Randi Forum” as well as other works.
Landoverbaptist.com Exposed
This webpage is quite possibly the most advertized of all Cross Nation. It is on Wikipedia, numerous websites that cut and paste from Wikipedia, and a handful of blogs and message boards. It has been chastised by some as being ridiculous and praised by others as exposing a malicious satire. Although it shall remain on Cross Nation, there are no intentions of adding more content to the chart. Since its latest update, there are plenty of examples that could be used on the Landover Baptist site, but really the point has been made.
Public Service
The last of the sub-departments, it has been a much ignored webpage. Seldom updated in the past, it is my intention to now update the webpage on a regular basis, once a month. Entries before AD 2010 will be archived as pre-2010 entries and the rest shall be organized not unlike the Department of Nonfiction.
Future endeavors
Many of the future intentions for Cross Nation have already been laid out. However there are some that do not fit the categories made above. Sometime this year there will probably be a new document to add to “Fundamental Orders.” It will be a terms of use document, describing the rules of using content from this site. Currently, no standards are professed, which is why on some occasions whole works have been copied and pasted elsewhere sans permission. When drafting these terms, there will be consideration for those who did such before terms were posted. That way, no one gets into trouble that shouldn’t. As always, the best way to know what to do next is feedback. The contact address for this site is crossnation@hotmail.com. May God be with all of you, may He bless you and keep you, now and forevermore. Amen.
